Francines Fish and Chip Shop in Plymouth has recently been awarded the Sea Fish Industry Authority (Seafish) Friers Quality Award for the fifth time.
The Friers Quality Award scheme was set up in 1996 as a way of raising standards within the fish and chip trade and enhancing the profile of the industry. The scheme is also a way of rewarding and promoting shops that provide a top quality product and high standards of hygiene, as well as friers who show a high level of competence.
Seafish trade and quality executive Mick Bacon said: "We are thrilled to award Francines with the Seafish Friers Quality Award for the fifth year in a row. They have consistently upheld the high level of quality required to receive the Award."
"Displaying the Friers Quality Award logo shows customers that the shop is one of the best frying businesses in the country. Not only that, research proves that by providing a top quality product, businesses can guarantee that customers will keep on coming back."
To qualify for the scheme, each shop has to go through a thorough inspection by a Seafish approved inspector who assesses the shop's image, design and condition, staff training, equipment, frying and sales skills, and most importantly, the quality of the cooked product.
Each Seafish Quality Award lasts for one year and retention is dependent on standards being maintained as validated by a Seafish appointed assessor.
Owner of Francines, Francine Baker, said: "I am delighted to have won this award for the fifth time. It's a great way to show customers that our shop has consistently achieved a really high standard of quality."
Francines also plays an important role in the local community taking part in various charity events and sponsoring a number of charities and local organisations.
