Elton orders fish & chips from Francines
SATURDAY NIGHT'S ALRIGHT FOR FRYING...

By GRAHAM BROACH HERALD REPORTER

Never mind fighting - Saturday Night's Alright for FRYING, if you're Sir Elton John.

Staff at Francine's fish and chip shop in North Prospect were thrilled when a local runner working for the star rang to order a pre-concert meal for Sir Elton and some of his entourage.

Owner Francine Baker said: "She phoned up before the show and ordered 12 portions of cod and chips for Elton and his crew, with Elton's fish having to be wrapped separately because he doesn't like the fish in with the chips.

"She told us Elton has a French chef who tours with him, but he just fancied fish and chips.

"She arrived in a huge people carrier and paid the £48 bill with a new £50 note.

"I threw in a free bottle of vinegar, 12 portions of mushy peas and a tub of salt.

"If Elton had signed the £50 note, I'd have framed it and hung it on the wall."

The well-wrapped meal was whisked back to Home Park in minutes and obviously did the trick, as Sir Elton rocked through his back catalogue of hits in fine style to an audience of 22,000.

FRANCINE'S A TOP BOSS WHEN CHIPS ARE DOWN
17 December 2004

A fish and chip shop owner from Plymouth has landed a top award for being one of the nation's best small business bosses.

Francine Baker was chosen as one of the five finalists in a nationwide search by energy supplier Powergen for Britain's most energetic boss, judged by a panel including TV comedian Simon Day and Business Link.

Francine runs Francine's Fish and Chip Shop, on North Prospect Road, in Milehouse.

She was nominated for the award by counter assistant Paula Cole because of her enthusiasm and positive efforts to keep all her five employees happy and motivated.

Along with the title of finalist in the competition, Francine has won a luxury weekend break to Europe and Paula will receive a case of champagne as a 'thank you' for entering Francine and to help celebrate the win with fellow employees.

Mrs Baker said: "I'm delighted to be made one of Britain's most energetic bosses. I always try to be positive, because if I'm happy everyone else is happy as well - and that's good for customers and good for business.

"I can't wait to take my well-earned weekend break and recharge my batteries."

The national search was organised by Powergen to highlight the positive energy and commitment of the leaders of Britain's 3.7 million small businesses.
